Our group

Created in 1986, PhysIOL has evolved from the University of Liège, Belgium, and has specialized in the research, development and manufacture of intraocular implants for cataract surgery.

PhysIOL with its enthusiastic team of highly professional and customer-focused employees supplies its products to ophthalmic surgeons in over 70 countries through a worldwide network.



  • 1986 : Creation of PhysIOL,  from a spin-off of the University of Liège
  • 1997 : Take-over from PhysIOL by Marc Nolet, CEO
  • 2000 : Set-up of a new R&D department
  • 2001 : Creation of PhysIOL France
  • From 2002: Development of a wide network of distributors in all regions of the world
  • 2006: Launch of PhysIOL’s first hydrophilic acrylic IOL with blue-light filtration
  • 2007: Launch of PhysIOL’s preloaded injection system 1.2.3
  • 2010: FineVision, the first trifocal diffractive IOL in the world, patented by PhysIOL
  • 2010: New patent for G-free® raw material (hydrophobic acrylic material 100% glistening-free)
  • 2010: Double C-loop design for toric platforms offering optimal stability
  • 2014: Launch of FineVision Toric
  • 2015: Creation of a partnership with US private equity group TA Associates
  • 2016: Acquisition of PhysIOL’s Nordic distributor and creation of Alyko by PhysIOL (Sweden)
  • 2017: PhysIOL acquires Italy based company Optikon

All PhysIOL intraocular lenses are ISO 13485 certified.
